The City Bike Shop Story
With an inventory of about 100 Chicago-made Schwinn bicycles, City Bike Shop's doors opened in 1955 at it's present 322 South Union St location in Traverse City Michigan. Round about the summer of 1975, a 13 year old 8th St neighborhood kid named Steve Baesch started hanging out at the shop, bugging the original owner for a job. The owner relented and Steve got his start sweeping the shop floors. From there he moved up into the service department, then shop management and eventually he purchase the shop outright in 1996.
Over the years, technology has changed, brands have come and gone, but what hasn't changed is City Bike's drive to provide you with the bike of your dreams or high quality fitness equipment. With over 85+ years of combined bike shop experience, you'll be hard-pressed to find a shop in TC with more experience.
Our staff rides and races what we sell, including our shop sponsored race team. Throughout the cycling season, you will bump into our staff and team on the roads and trails throughout Northwestern Michigan.
