City Bike Shop at Iceman Cometh Challenge 2017!
November 6, 2017, 12:00 am

Another Iceman Cometh is in the books! We're very proud of everyone who took on the 30-mile race from Kalkaska to Traverse City this past Saturday, pushing their limits and joining over 4,000 fellow cyclists for the biggest mountain bike race around.

City Bike Shop had a busy week making sure our customers' bikes were tuned up and ready for a cold and muddy day in the woods. Luckily, the rain held off until afternoon, making the morning waves mostly dry. There was even a nice blanket of snow covering the grass and trees in Kalkaska, making it a beautiful setting for an unforgettable day in the saddle.

We had plenty of friends in action, including a big contingent of City Bike Shop's racing squad. Tom White was the first in the start chute, followed by fellow riders in black jerseys or pinstriped jackets in plenty of the following waves of the day. The cold weather was an added challenge to a course that was tweaked a bit from 2016 and included just a bit more singletrack and a few re-routes that really changed how the race went down. Our riders were on a wide range of bikes, ranging from full suspension mountain bikes, to fat bikes, to hardtails and even a few singlespeeds! The choice of bikes is a wide and entertaining array of nearly everything out there, a diversity matched by the diverse speeds and abilities of the entrants.

Iceman is always an unforgettable event for riders in Traverse City, but it's always a treat to see cyclists from all over the state and even the continent take on event. It's an honor that the Pro winners, Geoff Kabush and Katerina Nash, are Canadian and Czech, respectively. The international horsepower brings an added degree of prestige to a race that's soaked in a uniquely Northern

Michigan charm.

Stop by the shop soon and let us know how your race went, get your bike scrubbed down, and enjoy that deep breath of the offseason. Congrats to the finishers, and thanks to Steve Brown and the many volunteers that help bring this event home every November. Until next year, ride on!
