Scott Bikes Demo Day: A Few Favorites
May 31, 2017, 12:00 am

We wanted to take a second to thank everyone who made it out to the Scott Bikes Demo! We lucked out with a beautiful night for some riding, and had a great turnout! Brad and Dave were impressed with TC's level of riding and familiarity with what makes bikes ride well.

The Scott Spark has been a hot bike in TC for the past few years, especially the 720 and 730 models. After years of 29er hardtails ruling the roost, more and more riders are starting to see the value in full suspension bikes for the miles and miles of unmarked singletrack and even XC races. While Northern Michigan doesn't have the most technical trails, the small obstacles and features we do have can make all the difference in races and also simply in enjoying a big day in the woods.

The Spark was the first bike out on demo, and all three sizes on hand were constantly being set-up, adjusted, and put through the paces, including some quality time with friends of the shop Jason Johnson and Brian Beckwith. Brad, our Scott rep, set the rigs up perfectly for each rider and off they went. The Spark RC and Spark line-ups offer a ton of spec options, with the appearance of a dropper post perhaps the most novel and fun aspect of the demo for more than a few people. Once you ride with a dropper, you won't imagine how you ever rode without one!

The Spark was a ton of fun (my favorite was the 740) but it something was going to fall off the truck before they left, I was really in love with the Scale Plus. There are dozens of folks on the super-racy, perfect-for-Iceman Scale RCs, but the Plus 710 was an absolute BLAST on the singletrack. Even after I'd taken a few other bikes for a ride, when Brian Beckwith showed up for our planned meet-up and roll, I tossed my pedals back on the the Plus and took off.

Plus bikes are perfect for Northern Michigan. With even racers on 29ers constantly trying to fit wider tires (think 2.35 or 2.4") into their frames, the 27.5+" bridges that gap. With 2.8 or 3.0" tires, the outer circumference is very close to a normal 29er, but with way more traction and, for the countless sand pits of TC, tons of floatation.

I really dug the 120mm fork, too. Brad set the bike up to be really playful, and I tried to live up to the expectations. The GX drivetrain is ideally suited for our area, and although I might bump up to a 34t chainring, it's more than trail-ready with a Fox Float 32 fork. Syncros' 35mm rims are tubeless ready, and I had it set-up where I tend to end up with on B+ wheels, 11 front and rear for my weight.

The bike rides light and snappy, and I was riding on the edge of the trail, hopping roots and rocks and generally having fun. While it may not necessarily be the fastest bike out there, for sheer enjoyability, it's the bike I'd be taking home.

Thanks again to everyone who made it out to the demo, and let us know which bikes you loved and which you'd like to know more about!

Not sure if you've heard the buzz, but the big news for 2015 from the good folks over at Stan's NoTubes is their entry into the carbon wheel game with the release of their ZTR Valor. Available in 29er, 27.5, 26" and cyclocross flavors, we are particularly excited about their 29er model and are pumped to let everyone know we have a pair in stock.

CBS Featured Bikes: 2015 Scott Sub Speed 10, Giant Fastroad SLR 1 & Giant Anyroad 2
January 4, 2015, 11:31 pm

While we are all about the latest and greatest road and mountain bikes, we get pretty geeked about commuter bikes too; between the Scott and Giant lines we carry, there are some darn cool commuter bikes on tap for 2015.  If you live and/or work in and around downtown TC or within the TART trail network, commuting via bike is an simple option that is definitely worth looking into. We have a lot of bikes on our showroom floor that make terrific commuters, but we'd like to highlight 3 from Scott and Giant that are unique and certainly stand out from the crowd.
