Fear The Bear: Otso Cycles Comes to Cuty Bike Shop

We live in the heart of fat bike country, so it only makes sense that we take a lot of pride in stocking the best fat bikes around. For years we’ve proudly kept a fleet of Borealis Fat Bikes on the floor, as well as options from Scott Bikes and REID Bikes, too. This winter, we’re really excited to welcome another brand to City Bike Shop. Otso Cycles is a cyclist engineer’s dream, and whether or not you get into head tube angles and rake, you’re going to love how this bike rides.

Otso Cycles was born when the engineers from Wolf Tooth Components turned their attention from making other bikes better and looked at making the best bike they could on their own. They quickly came up with two models that filled in the gaps between bikes other companies were making, the gravel-ready, all-road Warrakin and the fat bike, go-anywhere Voytek.

The Voytek’s chief engineering accomplishment is doing what nearly every fat bike company has tried to do since the bikes grew into such a big part of the industry. In order to accommodate wider tires, the width of the cranks, and where your feet find the pedals, was inched wider and wider. That measurement, called your Q-Factor, can feel unnaturally wide on traditional fat bike frames. Otso fixed it, bringing that width back to something closer to a normal mountain bike. That pairs well with the general geometry of the rest of the frame, a geometry that you can tweak to suit your style, too. Using a patent-pending Tuning Chip, you can adjust the chainstays and shorten up the wheelbase for snappier handling, or lengthen things out for a more stable winter or touring platform.

In short, it’s a fat bike that is really a mountain bike, covering all four seasons and nearly every tire width you would want to run. From a normal 29er wheelset in spring, 27.5”+ or 29”+ for our sandy trails in late summer, to race wheels all fall and back to fat when the snow flies, you can invest more on one bike that you love, just by swapping out wheels!

We have an Otso on the floor here at the shop and we’d love to show you more of the cool features, spec’s and capabilities of the Voytek. We don’t bring in bikes we’re not excited about, so you know we’re confident that if you swing a leg over an Otso, you’re going to have some fun.
